Special Education Teacher – Probationary Appointment

Current Assignment: Livonia Elementary School (Primary Self-Contained Classroom)

Livonia Central School District is seeking a collaborative, student-centered special education teacher for a probationary appointment beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

The successful candidate’s initial assignment is anticipated to be in a self-contained special education classroom at Livonia Elementary School serving students with complex needs. 

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver specially designed instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs
• Develop and implement appropriate instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, communication supports, and behavioral interventions
• Monitor student progress and use assessment data to inform instruction
• Develop, review, and implement IEP goals in collaboration with the Committee on Special Education and instructional team
• Maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
• Collaborate closely with related service providers, teaching assistants, families, and administrators
• Supervise and provide instructional direction to classroom support staff
• Implement positive behavior supports and individualized behavior intervention plans
• Support students who use augmentative and alternative communication devices
• Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student progress and needs
• Participate in CSE meetings, professional learning, and other District responsibilities
• Support students’ academic, behavioral, social-emotional, communication, and functional development

Elementary Teacher – Long-Term Substitute

Anticipated September 2026 through March 2027, with potential for a full-year appointment

Livonia Central School District anticipates several elementary long-term substitute teaching needs during the 2026-2027 school year. The District is seeking a flexible, student-centered elementary educator who may be interested in completing one, several, or all of the anticipated assignments.

Anticipated Assignments

• First grade long-term substitute assignment, anticipated September through November
• Prekindergarten long-term substitute assignment, anticipated October through December
• Fourth-grade long-term substitute assignment, anticipated January through March
• Additional substitute teaching needs may arise based on staffing and student needs

The anticipated dates are approximate and subject to change. Because some assignments may overlap, the District may hire more than one candidate or work with selected candidates to determine the assignments that best align with their availability, certification, experience, and interests.

Potential Full-Year Opportunity

Depending on the interest and availability of the selected candidate, the District may offer a full-year appointment. During periods when the employee is not serving in a long-term substitute assignment, the individual would serve as a building substitute and provide instructional coverage and support throughout the elementary school.
